Red Oak. Quercus Rubra.
For those who prefer a vertical grain oak floor, we mill quarter and rift sawn wide plank Red Oak in select, premium, and natural grades. Rift and quartersawn planks have radial and vertical grain instead of tangential grain. This exposes the medullary rays or “fleck” (a hallmark of Arts and Craft style oak furniture) and provides additional stability, making the quartersawn oak floor ideal for use in demanding installations.
Red Oak, with its warm red-gold hue, makes an inviting and classic floor. Browse through our Red Oak gallery to see how well this floor works with both traditional and contemporary styling.
Known for its strength, Red Oak is used in timber framing as well as for flooring, furniture making, and cabinetry. Sourced from New England, where colder weather and shorter growing seasons lead to slow, dense growth, our tongue and groove Red Oak wide plank floors are exceptionally strong and durable.
