In New England, northern white oaks often form epicormic branches that create distinctive knots in the grain. Our live sawn wide plank white oak flooring embraces this natural feature, showcasing the tree’s full cross-section and highlighting its unique character. By using every board from the log, live sawn white oak offers one-of-a-kind patterns with no repeats.
This traditional method cuts straight through the log without turning it, producing a mix of quarter sawn, rift sawn, and plain sawn grain. The result is wide planks that are both stable and more affordable than clear grades, an excellent alternative to quarter sawn oak. Known also as European center cut or French oak, live sawn maximizes log yield and reveals each tree’s unique personality.
Equally at home in old or modern spaces, live sawn oak adds warmth and organic texture. Its lively grain balances sleek materials like stone, glass, or stainless steel, making it ideal for softening cooler interiors such as all-white kitchens.
Our floors are made in the U.S.A. with wood from well-managed U.S. forests. Our family has made wide plank flooring for over 55 years, and we enjoy creating enduring floors that are a healthy and environmentally friendly solution for our clients’ homes.
