Ash Flooring - Rift and Quarter Sawn

Alternating bands of quarter and rift sawn Ash and Walnut were laid in a herringbone pattern for this floor.

Fraxinus Americana.

For those looking for a rift and quartered Ash floor, we mill ours in both the select and premium grades. Rift and quartersawn Ash shows off the vertical grain and has a very different appearance than plainsawn Ash.

Ash is a superior hardwood with excellent impact resistance, making it ideal for any location. Floors, baseball bats, canoe paddles, and tool handles are among the historic uses for White Ash. The wood is strong, with a broad, prominent grain, and it is slightly springy.  Sapwood is cream colored and heartwood, where the oldest growth lies, is pale tan to darker brown in color.

Ash floors offer excellent impact resistance and are recommended for any area of your home.

Floor #708. A trompe l'oeil effect was created for this room using our rift and quartered Walnut (the dark portions) and our rift and quartered Ash (the white portions). The Ash portions were especially selected for white wood only. Customer photo submitted from Beachhurst, Swampscott, Massachusetts.
