Sugar Maple. Acer Saccharum.
Wide plank sugar maple flooring in the premium grade is milled from lumber that contains a mix of heartwood and sapwood, which gives the flooring a pretty color variation.
This floor has only occasional knots and character marks and is a very popular choice for country interiors. Available in 3 to 12 inch widths with average plank lengths of over 8 feet.
The wood of choice for cutting boards and gymnasium floors, Sugar Maple, aka Hard Maple, is often recommended for high traffic areas.
Sugar Maple trees grown above the 38th parallel, as ours are, are sought after for their tight, uniform grain—the result of the shorter growing season.
