Red Oak.  Quercus Rubrum.

For those who prefer a vertical grain oak floor, Hull Forest Products mills rift and quarter sawn oak in Select, Premium, and Natural grades. Photo at right is the Select grade.

Quarter and rift sawing slices the wood at a different angle so the planks have radial and vertical grain instead of tangential grain. This exposes the medullary rays or “fleck” (a hallmark of Arts and Craft style oak furniture) and provides additional stability, which makes a quartersawn oak floor ideal for use in particularly demanding installations.

Red Oak, with its warm red-gold hue, makes an inviting and classic floor.  Known for its strength and resilience and ability to resist rot and insect damage, Red Oak is used in timber framing as well as flooring, furniture making, cabinetry, and other uses where its legendary sturdiness comes into play. Sourced from New England, where colder weather and shorter growing seasons lead to slow, dense growth, our Oak flooring is exceptionally strong and durable.
