Red Maple. Acer Rubrum.
Tiger Maple, also known as Curly Maple, is a figured wood. The grain of the wood grows in a distinctive stripe or flame pattern. Tiger Maple is one of the world’s most sought-after woods. Scientists still do not understand what creates the elegant figure, or distinctive pattern, in the grain of some Maples.
Available in the Premium grade in widths of 3 to 8 inches, and in the Natural grade in widths of 3 to 10 inches.
Red Maple’s properties are similar to that of Sugar Maple. The sapwood is grayish white and the heartwood is brown. It makes a very durable floor.
A hallmark of fine New England furniture making from the Colonial period to the present, Curly Maple remains a favorite of woodworkers and wood enthusiasts for its beauty, rarity, and mystery.
