American Hickory. Carya.
Of all the varieties of Hickory that grow in the United States, our Hickory is derived almost exclusively from Pignut Hickory, the hardest of them all. For this reason, some of our Hickory lumber is used in the manufacture of tool handles. We also make beautiful and durable Hickory floors that are equally at home in country and modern interiors.
Though extremely hard and impact resistant, Hickory floor boards may separate slightly when subjected to extreme fluctuations in humidity. If this describes your home's environment and you are not comfortable with any seasonal separation between floor boards (some folks don't mind it, some folks do), you should weigh other flooring options.
