American Hickory. Carya.
Our natural grade wide plank Hickory comes with a rustic patina of character marks provided by mother nature. This floor is especially popular among log and timber home owners for its rusticity. Natural grade floor planks are only 33 to 66 percent clear.
A truly American hardwood species, Hickory is a hard and heavy wood once prized for axe handles and wagon wheels.
With its legendary toughness, Hickory makes a durable floor that can hold up to even the heaviest traffic. However, a Hickory plank floor subjected to extreme fluctuations in humidity may exhibit some expansion and contraction resulting in a slight separation between the planks. Some folks are okay with a little seasonal separation, but others are not, which is why we point this out. Call us if you have any concerns over whether Hickory is the right wood for you and your home.

Natural Hickory has the highest frequency of natural markings among our Hickory floors in part because these planks are milled from the center of the tree, where the oldest growth lies.
