White Ash. Fraxinus Americana.
Quarter and rift sawing slices the wood at different angles than plain sawing, so the planks have radial and vertical grain instead of tangential grain. This gives the surface a different look and provides additional stability, ideal for use in particularly demanding installations or with radiant heating systems.
Rift and quartered Ash is available in natural and premium grades.
Floors, baseball bats, canoe paddles, and tool handles are among the historic uses for White Ash, with its strong, straight grained, slightly springy wood. Sapwood is cream colored and heartwood, where the oldest growth lies, is pale tan to darker brown in color. Ash has superior impact resistance, making it a great choice for any area of your home.
