Working Woodlands: 2010 Forestry Walks Led by Hull Forest Products

The Walker Family Tree Farm, Woodstock, CT

Saturday October 9th 9 am

Two hour hilly walk. See the results of over 50 years of forest management. From the intersection of Route 198 and Route 197 in Woodstock, take Route 198 north for two miles to parking area on the left at the Walker Family Tree Farm.

The Myers Pond Forest, Union, CT

Sunday October 17th 2 pm

Two hour tour, hilly terrain. Managed for timber production for over a century, the Myers Pond property is part of one of the largest unbroken expanses of forestland in eastern Connecticut and home to wetlands, streams, and forest that are critical wintering and staging areas for migratory waterfowl.  The forest also helps sustain the largest drinking water supply watershed in Connecticut.  See how woods, water, wildlife, and recreation coexist in a working forest and learn about George Hewitt Myers, the man behind the Yale Forest. From Route 190 at the Union Common, take Kinney Hollow Road for 1.25 miles. Turn left at the Hull Forestlands sign onto a gated dirt road.  

Woodland Regeneration and Habitat Improvement Walk, Brooklyn, CT

Saturday, October 30, 9 am

Tour of the Eastern Connecticut Forestland Owners Association / WDLT Williams, Ferguson, and Lasch Forest. Participants will view terrain that was recently harvested with the objective of regenerating the forest and enhancing the wildlife habitat on the property. From the intersection of Route 169 and Route 6 in Brooklyn, CT, take Route 169 north for one mile, take a left onto Herrick Road, go 1/2 mile to parking on the right.
