Behind every floor we craft, every home built with our timbers, every need that our lumber meets, there is a forest where trees are grown, harvested, and regenerated. It all starts in the woods.

From forest to floor: our floors are milled from wood harvested by logging professionals whose work is overseen by a company forester as well as a third party state forester who certifies compliance with environmental regulations and best management practices.

A Timbco processor is used to efficiently cut down trees and process them into cut-to-length logs. The logs are bunched into piles right off the stump so there is minimal disturbance to the ground.

Direction felling in action. The processor clamps the tree, cuts it off with a saw disk, picks it up, and then the operator sets the tree on the ground with precision in the desired location. |
|
A tree is delimbed and bucked to length. Feed wheels roll the tree through blades that cut off any limbs. The rolls stop at the length selected by the operator, based on the size and grade of the log.

A close up view of the disk saw cutting logs to length. The logs fall into neatly bunched piles for the forwarder to collect. Bunched piles mean less movement, more efficiency in the woods, and minimal ground disturbance.

A forwarder collects pulpwood previously felled and bunched by the harvester. Removing low-value pulpwood creates better growth conditions for more desirable species. Using a forwarder in place of a skidder means less ground disturbance because the logs are carried out of the woods rather than dragged.

The forwarder returns from the hillside back to the main trail to the landing. |
|

Logs are offloaded and sorted into piles at the landing. |

And let's not forget the old fashioned way: skidding logs with a draft animal. Several part-time horse loggers supply logs to Hull Forest Products.
