What kind of quality inspection do your timbers undergo?
We inspect every timber individually after milling to make sure it is the highest quality possible for you.
What is the typical grade on your timbers?
98 percent of the time we supply ungraded 2 & Better timbers to professional timber framers and individuals. At the customer’s request, we can certify/stamp our timbers as 2 & Better with the Northeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association (NELMA) stamp. Timbers 2 & Better are the norm. We can also supply #1 grade timbers, although this requires greater specifications and often several re-cuts to achieve, creating a significantly greater cost to the consumer.
What are your lead times on timbers?
We maintain a significant volume of logs for timbers in stock and 99 percent of the time when starting an order we have the stock on hand, and our average lead time is 2-4 weeks, depending on what part of our sawing cycle we are in at the time you place your order. The absolute worst case scenario (if we are just beginning a run of whitewoods after having sawn White Oak, for example) would be a wait of 10 weeks for White Oak. In contrast, many suppliers comb the woods for timber stock AFTER getting an order, resulting in less predictable lead times.
What have your timbers been used for?
Our timbers have built bridges, barns, garages, and buildings of all kinds from Alaska to Ireland, but their most popular use by far is for timber frame/post and beam home construction.
